Licensed Psychologist
First and foremost, I meet clients where they are—without judgment—creating a space where they feel safe to be their authentic selves. My approach is integrative and tailored to each person’s unique needs and concerns. I draw from evidence-based practices, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Brief Short-Term Psychodynamic Therapy, and interpersonal approaches. Additionally, I incorporate a multicultural and social justice lens in all of my work, ensuring that therapy is inclusive, affirming, and responsive to the diverse experiences of my clients.
For individuals concerned about their substance use or addictive behaviors, I offer support through either a harm reduction approach or a focus on abstinence, depending on what feels most appropriate for your journey.
One of the strongest predictors of success in therapy is the strength of the therapeutic relationship between provider and client. Like all relationships, feedback can improve its quality. I make it a point to check in regularly to see how we’re doing and encourage open communication. I also provide opportunities for you to share feedback with me outside of sessions so we can adjust our work together—turning the volume up or down—to find the right balance for your needs.
My Background
I am a licensed psychologist with over 10 years of experience in the mental health field. My work focuses on supporting individuals concerned about their substance use or other addictive behaviors, as well as those dealing with complex trauma, anxiety, depression, and relationship difficulties. I have extensive training in evidence-based practices, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Substance Use Disorders (CBT-SUD), Motivational Interviewing, and the Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) approach.
In addition to my clinical work, I am an active researcher at the Center for Behavioral Health Promotion and Applied Research at the University at Albany. I also enjoy training mental health professionals and graduate students in evidence-based practices, equipping them with tools to help individuals better understand their mental health, substance use, and support those in recovery.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Sociology from Stony Brook University, my Master of Science in Counselor Education with a specialization in School Counseling from Central Connecticut State University, and my Ph.D. from the University at Albany. During my doctoral training, I completed a pre-doctoral internship at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital, where I specialized in the treatment of addictive behaviors.
Over the course of my career, I have worked in various settings, including community outpatient care, addiction treatment centers, university counseling centers, and residential, inpatient, and intensive outpatient care. This diverse experience has provided me with a deep understanding of the complexities of mental health and addiction, allowing me to offer personalized and effective support to each individual I work with.
